Men's Basketball Announces 2002-2003 Schedule

9/10/2002 WASHINGTON DC---8 games on national television (3 on CBS, 4 on ESPN, and one on ABC) and 14 contests with opponents who appeared in post season tournaments last season highlight the 2002-2003 Georgetown University Men's Basketball schedule.

The Hoyas' inaugural television appearance of the season will be the CBS match up with Virginia (17-12 NIT), the first of five Virginia teams Georgetown will face this season, on December 28.  CBS will also cover two of the Hoyas’ home contests. The February 8 meeting with UCLA (19-11 NCAA) and the season regular season closer with Notre Dame (22-11 NCAA) on March 8 will be seen courtesy of the Columbia Broadcasting System.

March 1st will mark Georgetown’s return to ABC as the Syracuse (23-13 NIT) game at the MCI Center will be broadcast.

ESPN will carry the Hoyas’ first ever meeting with Duke (31-4 NCAA) at Cameron Indoor Stadium on January 8. (Although the Hoyas hold a 5-3 edge in the series with Duke going back to 1912-13, Georgetown has never before visited Duke’s home). ESPN will also carry the February 3 Syracuse (23-13 NIT) game from the Carrier Dome, the February 17 meeting with Pittsburgh (29-6 NCAA) at the MCI Center and the February 22 contest with Miami (24-8 NCAA) at the Miami Civic Center. Finally, ESPN and ESPN2 will once again broadcast the BIG EAST Tournament.

GU’s home slate with BIG EAST opponents will also include West Division rivals West Virginia on January 12, Rutgers (18-13 NIT) on January 20, and  Seton Hall on January 29. The Hoyas will also host cross-divisional opponents St. John’s  (20-12 NCAA) on January 18 and Providence on February 25.

The Big East schedule of divisional away games for the Hoyas will include Seton Hall on January 14, Pittsburgh (29-6 NCAA) on January 25, Notre Dame (22-11 NCAA) on February 1,  Rutgers (18-13 NIT) and West Virginia on March 5. The Hoyas will travel to face BIG EAST cross-divisional opponent Virginia Tech on February 15.

Georgetown's first home game will take place on November 22 when the Hoyas face the Tigers of Grambling. James Madison visits the MCI Center on November 25 and Towson closes out November with a visit on November 30.

December sees the Hoyas host Coastal Carolina on 2nd, then SEC team South Carolina (18-14 NIT), visits the MCI Center on the 5th, seeking vengance for last year’s loss in the Carolina Colliseum. Norfolk State visits on the 16th, Howard University on the 20th and on New Year’s eve Georgetown will face the leading scorer in the country last season, Jason Conley (29.3 ppg) of VMI.

Georgetown will play an exhibition game against a touring International team at McDonough Arena on November 1.

This year Georgetown games will be carried by WTEM with the "Voice of the Hoyas", Rich Chvotkin at the mike.
