Washington - Featuring 21 games with opponents who appeared in postseason tournaments last season and a trip to play in the Charleston Classic, the 2010-11 Georgetown University men's basketball schedule was released on Friday afternoon. Other highlights include BIG EAST Conference games at home against West Virginia and Syracuse, as well as non-league games at Temple, Missouri and Memphis.
Georgetown will ring in the New Year on Jan. 1 when it plays its BIG EAST Conference home opener against DePaul. Other BIG EAST home games during the first month of the year include West Virginia (31-7, NCAA Final Four) on Jan. 8 (ESPN2), Pittsburgh (25-9, NCAA) on Jan. 12(ESPN2), St. John's (17-16, NIT) on Jan. 26 and Louisville (20-13, NCAA) on Jan. 31(ESPN).
The Hoyas' second month of conference play starts with a visit from Providence on Feb. 5. The team will then play three of its next four games on the road with Marquette (22-12, NCAA) visiting Verizon Center on Feb. 13(ESPN). The conference home schedule closes out later in the month, with Cincinnati (19-16, NIT) in town on Feb. 23. The final regular season home game, with Syracuse on February 26, will be broadcast on CBS.
The Blue & Gray will start BIG EAST Conference play on Dec. 29, visiting Notre Dame (23-12, NCAA)(ESPN). After returning home for the start of the New Year, Georgetown plays at St. John's on Jan. 3(ESPN2). Other road games include a visit to Rutgers on Jan. 15 (ESPNU), Seton Hall (19-13, NIT) on Jan. 18 and to Villanova (25-8 NCAA) on Jan.29 (ESPN).
Other BIG EAST road games include trips to Syracuse on Feb. 9, to Connecticut (18-16, NIT) on Feb. 16 (ESPN) and to USF (20-13, NIT) on Feb. 19. Georgetown closes out the regular season on March 5 at Cincinnati.
The Hoyas will open the season by playing four of their first five games away from home, starting with a non-league game at Old Dominion (27-9, NCAA) on Nov. 12.
Georgetown will play its home opener on Nov. 15 when Tulane visits Verizon Center.
Following that game, GU will head south to play in the Charleston Classic in South Carolina, a tournament featuring four teams that reached the postseason last year. The Hoyas begin play in the Charleston Classic on Nov. 18 against Coastal Carolina (28-7, NIT). Possible opponents in the field include Wofford (26-9, NCAA), North Carolina State (20-16, NIT) and George Mason (17-15, CIT).
The Hoyas will play seven games before BIG EAST Conference play begins, four of those dates at home. GU will host UNC-Asheville on Nov. 27, then will play Utah State (27-8, NCAA) on Dec. 4. After a road game, Georgetown returns to Verizon Center to play Appalachian State on Dec. 12 and Loyola (Md.) on Dec. 18.
Road games during that stretch include dates against three postseason teams - Missouri (23-11, NCAA) on Nov. 30 (ESPN) in Kansas City, at Temple (29-6, NCAA) on Dec. 9 and at Memphis (24-10, NIT) on Dec. 23(ESPN2).
The BIG EAST Tournament at Madison Square Garden runs March 8-12.
