WASHINGTON - Georgetown University sophomore men's basketball player Otto Porter (Sikeston, Mo./Scott County Central) was selected as a fourth team Preseason All-American by CBSSports.com.
Porter, a sophomore forward, is one of nine letterwinners and three starters back for the Hoyas this season.
Porter was selected as a fourth team Preseason All-American and was also tabbed as the 16th-best player in the country. He was the highest rated among any players from the BIG EAST Conference.
Porter finished the 2011-12 season ranked fourth on the team in scoring with 9.7 points per game and led the team in rebounds with 6.8 per game. He appeared in all 33 of GU's games, starting eight times, and led the team in field goal percentage, connecting on 52.5 percent of his shots from the floor. Porter, who averaged 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals, reached double figures in scoring 14 times, had seven double figure rebounding games and recorded three double-doubles.
Georgetown finished the 2011-12 season with a 24-9 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in eight years under Head Coach John Thompson III. The Hoyas, who were picked to finish 10th in the BIG EAST, posted a 12-6 record in league play and were among the top five teams in the league.
The men's basketball team officially begins its season on Friday, Oct. 12, with its annual Midnight Madness celebration on campus. The evening's festivities will include an appearance by hip hop legend Doug E. Fresh.
