WASHINGTON - When the National Basketball Association 2013-14 season starts tonight, former Georgetown men's basketball All-American Roy Hibbert (C'08) won't be the only Hoya fans can keep an eye out for in the professional ranks.
This season, several Hoyas will be featured on NBA rosters. Hibbert, entering his sixth year in the league and coming off an appearance in the All-Star game, will help to lead his Indiana Pacers in tonight's season opener against the Orlando Magic.
Hibbert is among six former Georgetown players, all of whom played for Head Coach John Thompson III, who will be starting the season in the league.
In addition to Hibbert, other league veterans include Boston Celtics star Jeff Green (C'12) and Detroit Pistons standout Greg Monroe (ex'15). Green will lead the Celtics in their season opener on Wednesday night at Toronto.
Another former Hoya All-American, Otto Porter Jr., who was named the BIG EAST Player of the Year last season, was the No. 3 pick of the Washington Wizards in this year's NBA Draft. Porter Jr. and the Wizards will open their season on Wednesday night in Detroit against Monroe and the Pistons.
Sims makes his NBA debut on Wednesday night when the Cavaliers play the Brooklyn Nets in Ohio. Thompson will make his league debut when the 76ers host the Miami Heat on Wednesday night.
Georgetown finished the 2012-13 season with a 25-7 record and earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Hoyas won a share of the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship and were the No. 1 seed in the tournament after posting a 14-4 record in league play. The Hoyas were ranked No. 8 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and No. 8 in the USA Today Coaches' poll and closed out the regular season with 12 wins in 13 games.
The Hoyas open the 2013 regular season against Oregon in the Armed Forces Classic, being played at Camp Humphreys in South Korea on Friday, Nov. 8 on ESPN.
