Former Georgetown Guard Jonathan Wallace Selected in NBDL Draft
Nov. 6, 2009
WASHINGTON - Former Georgetown University men's basketball player Jonathan Wallace was selected by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the 2009 NBA Developmental League Draft Thursday night. Wallace was the fifth pick of the second round, the 21st selection overall. A 2008 graduate of Georgetown, Wallace played overseas in his first year after a spectacular career on the Hilltop. After playing for a team in Slovenia, Wallace moved on to Germany, where he played for EWE Baskets Oldenburg and helped lead the team to the German Basketball Bundesliga Championship. At Georgetown, Wallace played in and started all 136 games during his career, averaging 9.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists. He still ranks as the school's all-time leader in three-point field goals made with 240 and is 20th all-time in scoring with 1,258 points. An honorable mention All-BIG EAST selection as a senior in 2007-08, Wallace finished third on the team in scoring with 10.7 points, while averaging 2.6 assists and 2.1 rebounds. He helped lead the Hoyas to their second-straight BIG EAST Regular Season Championship. In 2006-07 as a junior, Wallace was a starting guard for a Hoya team that went 30-7, advanced to the Final Four and won both the BIG EAST Regular Season title and BIG EAST Tournament Championship. He averaged 11.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. Wallace hit a clutch three-pointer against North Carolina with 31.9 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and send it to overtime en route to a 96-84 win over the Tar Heels that advanced Georgetown to the Final Four. Complete rosters for each of the 16 2009-10 NBA D-League teams will be comprised of the eight players drafted tonight along with seven returning, allocation, and local tryout players. Rosters will be reduced to 12 players on Nov. 18 and opening-day 10-man rosters must be set by Nov. 25 in anticipation of the Nov. 27 tip off of the NBA D-League's ninth season. Each team will play one preseason game between Nov. 19 and 25.
