Georgetown enters the game with a 2-2 overall record and advanced following a second round win over Kansas State, while VCU enters with a 4-1 record following a 73-67 win over Long Beach State on Friday night.
Georgetown bounced back from a tough tournament-opening loss to Northeastern (63-56), beating Kansas State, 90-63, on Friday afternoon, with sophomore guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central/Oak Hill) scoring a game-high 25 points to lead four players in double figures.

The 90 points scored by Georgetown were a season-high and the 11th time a Georgetown team scored by John Thompson III has scored at least 90. The Hoyas also connected on 63.5 percent of their field goals (33-of-52), the seventh-best single game performance under JTIII.
Smith-Rivera, who leads the Hoyas in scoring with 17.3 points per game, is third in the tournament in scoring through two games, averaging 19.5 points. He has connected on 47.8 percent of his field goals in two games (11-of-23) and 92.3 percent of his free throws (12-of-13).

The Hoyas are fourth in the BIG EAST in field goal percentage defense, with opponents connecting on 39.9 percent of their field goals.
While only just over 100 miles separate the schools in the Nation's Capital and VCU, located in the state capital of Virginia, the teams have only met twice in school history. The last meeting was during the 2010-11 NCAA Tournament, a game won by VCU 74-56 in the second round. The Hoyas trail the head-to-head series 0-2, losing the only other meeting between the teams, 88-75, during the 1977-78 season.
