11/30/2002 Georgetown defeated the Tigers of Towson on 11/30/02 by a score of 81-52. Gerald Riley paced all scorers for the second consecutive game, scoring 22 points in 22 minutes. He also tied his career high in steals with 4, a record which he set against Towson last season. Tony Bethel added 15 tallies, Brandon Bowman contributed 11 and Mike Sweetney rounded out the quartet of Hoyas in double figures with 10. Mike and Wesley Wilson paced GU’s rebounders with 8 caroms each. After a frenetic first few moments, the Hoyas established a lead at the 16:22 mark and never looked back. Although the Tigers reduced the deficit to 8 with 2:20 remaining in the first period, the Hoyas stormed back to take a 14 point margin into the locker room at intermission, 43-29. With rebounding even at 22 and a 16-9 edge in turnovers, the Hoyas’ defense continued to create scoring opportunities. The margin was 23 (60-37) before the second stanza was 8 minutes old. When the differential grew to 29 points the Tigers put together a 12-2 run, but Georgetown answered with a 13-3 run of their own. The final score was 81-52. For the game the Hoyas had 25 steals (just 2 shy of the team’s record) and forced 32 turnovers (a record for Towson). Georgetown won the battle of the boards 44-40 but allowed their opponents to hit 40.8% of their shots while hitting only 35.7% of their own. Mike Sweetney passed Al Dutch as the 29th member of the 1,000 point club. Mike passed Jameel Watkins as the 21st leading rebounder in Georgetown’s history.
