WASHINGTON - The Georgetown men's basketball team is looking to continue its six-game win streak on Thursday evening at Capital One Arena. The Hoyas will play Howard University with an 8:45 p.m. tipoff.
The game will be shown live on FS1 with Rich Waltz calling the play-by-play and Tarik Turner providing color analysis. The game can be heard locally on WJFK 106.7 FM with Rick Chvotkin handling the call.
GU improved to 6-0 on the season after a 76-60 win against Coppin State on Sunday night. Junior Jessie Govan (Queens Village, N.Y./Wings Academy) led the Hoyas with a season-high 26 points and a career-high 16 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. On Monday Govan was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the third time this season.
Also contributing to Sunday's win were junior Marcus Derrickson (Bowie, Md./Brewster Academy [N.H.]) and freshman Jamorko Pickett (Washington, D.C./Massanutten Military Academy [Va.]), who each chipped in 13 points to round out those in double figures. Junior Kaleb Johnson (South Hill, Va./The Carlisle School) and senior Jonathan Mulmore (New Orleans, La./Redemption Christian [Texas]/Alleghany) each provided five assists to lead the squad while Mulmore added a pair of steals.
Georgetown currently leads the BIG EAST in rebounds, averaging 41.2 per game, and Govan leads the league in the same category with 12.2 rpg. With an 11.8 rpg margin, the Hoyas lead the league and rank eighth in the country. GU is second in the BIG EAST in 3-point field goal percentage, hitting 41.3 percent, along with being ranked second with 18.3 assists per game. Mulmore is third in the league with 5.33 assists per game and Derrickson comes in second in the free throw percentage category (.955).
The Howard University Bison are entering Thursday's game with a 1-8 record, the lone win coming against Central Pennsylvania College. The Bison lost in their most recent game on Monday night to the University of Pennsylvania, 81-68. RJ Cole leads the Bison, averaging 19.6 ppg and 6.2 assists.
This will be the ninth meeting between Georgetown and Howard. GU has an 8-0 record against the Bison and won 85-72 in last year's nonconference meeting. Georgetown has an all-time record of 58-0 against schools from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
Following Thursday's game, the Hoyas will return to action against North Carolina A&T on Saturday, December 9, with a 2:30 p.m. tipoff at Capital One Arena.
