WASHINGTON - Georgetown University sophomore forward Otto Porter Jr. (Morley, Mo./Scott County Central) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sunday after leading the Hoyas to a 65-48 win over American on Saturday at Verizon Center.
It was the seventh-straight win for the Blue & Gray, who improved to 10-1 under Head Coach John Thompson III.
Porter Jr. scored 16 points and tied his season-high with 13 rebounds for his third double-double of the season and the sixth of his career. The sophomore hit 5-of-10 shots from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point land. He added three assists and two steals in 34 minutes.
A First Team All-BIG EAST Preseason selection, this is the second time he has been recognized by the BIG EAST, earning a spot on the honor roll on Nov. 26 after averaging 16.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 steals in three games, including a win over then-No. 11 UCLA and the team's only loss, to then-No. 1 Indiana in overtime.
Overall this season, Porter Jr. leads the team in scoring (13.2 points per game), rebounding (7.7 rpg), assists (3.2 apg), steals (2.2 spg) and blocked shots (1.4 bpg).
He ranks 20th in the BIG EAST in scoring, seventh in rebounds, 15th in field goal percentage (51.0 percent), eighth in steals, 11th in three-point field goal percentage (43.5 percent), 15th in blocked shots and eighth in assist/turnover ratio (2.7, 32 assists, 12 turnovers).
Porter finished the 2011-12 season ranked fourth on the team in scoring with 9.7 points per game and led the team in rebounds with 6.8 per game. He appeared in all 33 of GU's games, starting eight times, and led the team in field goal percentage, connecting on 52.5 percent of his shots from the floor. Porter, who averaged 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals, reached double figures in scoring 14 times, had seven double figure rebounding games and recorded three double-doubles.
The Hoyas will travel to Wisconsin for their next game, where they will compete in their first BIG EAST Conference game of the season against Marquette. The game will be played on January 5 at 2 p.m., and can be viewed on MASN.
