Men's Basketball Defeats Crosstown Rival Howard

Georgetown (8-3) completed 2004 with a 79-56 victory over Howard (4-6) on 12/30/04 at the MCI Center. The 7,671 in the stands saw every Hoya get to play and several score for the first time this season. For the third consecutive game Brandon Bowman led the team in both scoring (18) and rebounding (7). Brandon also had 3 blocks, 4 assists and hit 6 of 9 from the field. Roy Hibbert added 12 points and also had 3 blocks. Ashanti Cook contributed 11 tallies. Ray Reed set a new career high in assists with 6.

The game started slowly with the score knotted at 6 with 13:52 on the clock. Over the next 5 minutes the Hoyas put together an 11-0 run to establish a lead they would not relinquish. The scoring through the remainder of the half favored Georgetown 16-10 building a 17 point lead at intermission (33-16).

In the second frame the Hoyas only once allowed the Bison to come within 16 points, quickly and decisively building their edge to more than 20. The Georgetown edge swelled to as many as 27 on three separate occasions, but the final differential was 23, 79-56.

For the game the Hoyas shot 59.6% from the field (53.3% from beyond the arc) while holding their opponents to 31%. The Hoyas edged out the Bison in rebounding 34-33 and had 11 more assists and 8 more blocks..
