Georgetown Crew Victorious in Club Eight and Open Pair at Head of the Potomac

Washington, D.C. - Georgetown Crew started their fall season with a resounding performance at the 28th annual Charlie Butt Scullers' Head of the Potomac. The heavyweight men swept the Club Eight and the lightweight men won the Open Pair and finished second and third in the Open Eight.

Georgetown boats swept the top three spots in the Men's Club Eight. The winning crew was composed of seven freshmen and one uperclassman and was coxed by Jack Carlson. They crossed the line in 14:30.6. Coxswain Victoria Stulgis' boat finished second in 14:45.1, nudging past the third-place boat coxed by John Geager which finished in 14:46.4.

Men's Club Eight Freshman Participants

In the Open Pair, Richard Mauro and Allen Carey from the Lightweight team rowed as unaffiliated and won the event with a time of 18:34.3, defeating the second-place boat by 17 seconds.

"It was fun to compete and close out a great alumni weekend on a strong note," said Lightweight Coach Evans Liolin. "We are all looking forward to more racing this year."

Georgetown's Lightweights began the fall racing season finishing second and third in the Men's Open Eight event, only eight seconds behind a seasoned crew from Potomac Boat Club with a time of 14:07.9. The third-place boat ended the race with a time of 14:11.9.
