Georgetown Heavyweight Crew Opens Spring Season at Jesuit Invitational

Camden, N.J. - The Georgetown University top varsity boat won the varsity eight race at the Annual Jesuit Invitational on the Cooper River in a time of 6:18.6, as men's crew opened their spring season on Saturday.
The winning varsity eight crew of Coxswain Kerri McKie, stroke Matt Stewart, Henry Hoffstot, Kyle Textor, Mike Blommer, Mike Hennessy, Tim Broughton, John Absher and bow Alexander Willen lead early and finished 7.9 seconds in front of closest competitor Boston College (6:26.5) and the rest of the field of St. Joes (6:45.3), and Fairfield (7:28.4).
"This race was a good opportunity for us to work on our base rhythm and speed and I feel like we accomplished that goal", noted Georgetown Men's Varsity Eight Coxswain Kerri McKie.
Georgetown's second varsity eight, consisting of coxswain Nathaniel Liu, stroke Chris Kozak, Matt Funk, Chris Sparacino, Cameron Hoerner, James Nelson, Steven Lim, Matt Mullman, Adam Orshefsky, finished in a time of 6:36.4, four seconds behind what turned out to be St. Joe's fastest time of the day (6:32.5). Georgetown's first freshman eight of coxswain Bethany Biszko, stroke Mike Squitieri, Austin Bury, Will Halle, Jack O'Donnell, Alex Miceli, John Haviland, Hunter Dougherty and bow Dimitri Roumeliotis also raced in the second varsity event and finished third in a time of 6:40.9 in front of Boston College's second varsity eight (6:49.7) and the St. Joe's B boat (6:50.2).
The second freshman eight comprised of coxswain Alex Pommier, stroke Matt Hennrikus, Joe Brooks, Alec Randall, Lazar Zdravkovic, Matt Huszagh, Mike Ferm, and bow Alan Tadian competed in the first freshman eight event against top freshman crews from Fairfield and Loyola of Baltimore. They finished first in a time of 7:02.4 with open water separating them from of their closest competitor Fairfield (7:24) and Loyola (7:41.4).
Georgetown Men's Heavyweight Crew returns to Camden, NJ and the Cooper River next Friday and Saturday, when they will meet Penn, Northeastern and GW at the Pennsylvania Invitational Regatta.
