Five Hoyas Named to IRA All-Academic Team

July 10, 2017

WASHINGTON - Five members of the Georgetown University lightweight men's rowing team were named to the 2017 Intercollegiate Rowing Association All-Academic Team (IRA). Recent graduate Kevin McGowan (C'17), rising seniors Brendan Fish (New Hope, Pa./The Lawrenceville School), John Matthews (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) and Jordi Perez (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit Dallas) as well as rising junior Joe Cecil (Alpharetta, Ga./Johns Creek) were all recognized.

"Only non-freshman, non-transfer students were eligible for this honor," Head Varsity Lightweight Coach Lee Rumpf said. "This means about half of the team who could have gotten it did. I'm thankful to the culture of academic success here at Georgetown and particularly on our program. They support each other both on the water and in the classroom, which further demonstrates the bond of brotherhood I get to witness every day."

To be eligible for recognition a student-athlete must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.35 or higher, completed one full year at their institution (freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible), be an institutional letter winner and also competed at the 2017 IRA National Championship Regatta.
