Georgetown Crew Sends Eastern Sprints Finalist to Head of the Charles

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's crew will send its 2010 Eastern Sprints finalist eight to race at the Head of the Charles in Boston, Mass. They will be competing in the regatta's most challenging event, the Championship Eights. The crew includes an all-sophomore lineup with stroke Matt Stewart, Henry Hoffstot, Sam Viola, Mike Hennessy, Ben Holtzmuller, Tim Broughton, Charlie de Pentheny-O'Kelly, Mike Blommer and Coxswain Kerri McKie.
Their fifth place finish at the 2010 Eastern Sprints was the best result in history for a Georgetown freshman eight. Four members of the crew went on to travel overseas during the summer to compete in several regattas including the Marlow International Regatta, Reading Regatta and the Henley Royal Regatta, in Henley, England.
This will be the crew's first appearance at the Head of the Charles. They will face some of the best eight-man crews in the world, including entries from the U.S. National Team, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, England and a full field of the top U.S. collegiate crews .
The 2010 Head of the Charles Regatta will be held on Saturday, October 23 and Sunday, October 24 in Boston, Mass. on the Charles River. With over 9,000 competitors entered to race and 300,000 spectators expected over the 2 days of competition, it is the largest regatta in the world.
