Men's Rowing Ready for Head of the Charles Regatta

Oct. 21, 2016

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's men's rowing team will participate in the 52nd Head of the Charles Regatta on the Charles River in Boston, Mass., on Sunday. The Hoyas will enter boats in both the Lightweight 4 and Championship 8 events, facing off against some of the top competition in the nation.

Up first for the Hoyas is the Lightweight 4 event, set to start at 1:48 p.m. The boat, manned by coxswain Ryan Zuccula (Orchard Park, N.Y./Canisius), Thomas Ruggles (Weston, Mass./Belmont Hill), Kevin McGowan (Bowie, Md./Gonzaga), Olivier Malle (New York, N.Y./Lawrenceville School) and Hector Formoso (Key Biscayne, Fla./Belen Jesuit Prep), will be starting second behind Cornell and in front of Columbia.

"We are extremely excited about the opportunity to go up against the majority of our competition at the Head of the Charles regatta," Lightweight Varsity Coach Lee Rumpf said. "Our focus all fall has been on the development of the team as a whole, so putting out a top boat is purely a reflection of that hard work of the entire team."

Following the lightweight race, the heavyweight squad takes the water at 2:20 p.m. in the Championship 8 event. Coxwain William Rau (Devon, Pa./Phillips Exeter Academy), along with Francesco Ambrosio (Naples, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Sacro Cuore), Sean Barry (Vero Beach, Fla./Saint Edwards), Carson Yates (Oklahoma, City, Okla./Heritage Hall), John Carroll (Bronxville, N.Y./Fordham Prep), Robert Danziger (Lincoln, Mass./Belmont Hill), Ethan Rosen (North Salem, N.Y./Peddie School), Liam Carty (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Taft School) and Vaughan Merrick (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) will start 19th behind Navy and in front of Drexel.

"There are a lot of new faces in the top lineup for this year's Charles boat, and I am looking forward to seeing what they do with this opportunity," said men's rowing Head Coach Luke Agnini. "This is a great weekend to see most of our competition from the Eastern Sprints league. After a long semester of training and studying, I know the guys are ready to put themselves out there and race."

A live webcast will be available for all races, and can be found online at www.hocr.org/the-regatta/live-webcast/.
