Recruits: Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, Illinois (Chicago area), Southern New Jersey, Minnesota (Minneapolis area), Missouri (St. Louis area). Tony Lucas was named running backs coach at Georgetown University in June 2011 and immediately helped the Hoyas finish with the second best rushing offense in the Patriot League in 2011. The Hoyas rushed for an average of 147.5 yards per game,
Sophomore Nick Campanella had a breakout season under Lucas, earning Second Team All-Patriot League honors, while finishing among the league leaders with eight touchdowns. Wilburn Logan, Dalen Claytor and Brandon Durham also had career-high rushing totals during the 2011 season.
Lucas arrived on theHilltop after spending one season as the defensive quality control/assistant academic coordinator at Bowling Green State University. There, he was responsible for monitoring the academic development of student-athletes. Lucas was also responsible for breaking down opponent passing concepts and assisting with defensive scouting reports and in-game scouting of opponent's offensive schemes and personnel.
Lucas, a Bloomfield, Conn. native, is a 2003 graduate of Columbia University where he was a four-year letter-winner, receiving the team's Maniatty-Remmer Unsung Hero Award, while earning a degree in economics. Lucas earned his master's in economics at Trinity College in 2010 where he served as a graduate assistant, coaching the outside linebackers.
