Georgetown Puts 33 Student-Athletes on Patriot League Academic Honor Roll

Feb. 24, 2017

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University football program had 33 student-athletes named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll when the league office announced the list on Friday. The 33 honor roll selections are the second-highest total in the Patriot League.

"I am very proud of the 33 student-athletes who have been named to the 2016 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll," Georgetown Head Coach Rob Sgarlata said. "This honor is a direct result of their hard work and dedication in the classroom. I would especially like to recognize Dr. Shelly Habel, our academic coordinator, assistant coach Maurice Banks and our faculty and staff for their excellent work supporting all of our student-athletes."

To be eligible for the Fall Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 GPA in the fall semester and participate in one of the Patriot League's seven fall championship sports. Overall, the Patriot League had 197 total members earn football academic honors, with each school finishing with at least 20 selections.

Highlighting the list for the Hoyas are senior Phil Novacki (Great Falls, Va./Langley) and juniors Jim McLaughlin (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) and Jelani Williamson (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel). All three were named to the 11-member Academic All-Patriot League Team in November, which is voted on by the league's sports information directors who could not cast a vote for their own student-athletes. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average, must be at least a sophomore standing at his institution and must have played in at least 50 percent of the team's games.

Overall, Georgetown had 11 seniors, 11 juniors, six sophomores and five freshmen make the list.
