WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University football team has announced its 11-game schedule for the 2011 season that kicks off on when the Hoyas host Davidson College on Saturday, Sept. 3 at Multi-Sport Field at 6 p.m. Overall the schedule includes six Patriot League games, with four at home, including the first two, and five non-league games.
Georgetown opens the 2011 season with two-consecutive home night games games, as they host the Wildcats on Saturday, Sept. 3, followed by a visit from Patriot League rival Lafayette College on Saturday, September 10 at 6 p.m. For the Hoyas, it will be the second straight season the Hoyas will open with Davidson and Lafayette in back-to-back weeks. GU started 2-0 in 2010, with a 20-10 victory over Davidson 20-10 and a 28-24 victory over the Leopards.
The Blue & Gray will follow with five consecutive road contests, including four non-league games, starting with Ivy League opponent Yale on Sept. 17, followed by Marist on Sept. 24. The Hoyas will play its second league game at Bucknell on Oct. 1, before heading to Wagner on Oct. 8. GU then returns to Washington, D.C. to renew its cross-town rivalry with Howard University on Saturday, Oct. 15 when the two school's play for the Mayor's Cup.
Homecoming Weekend on the Hilltop will feature the Hoyas and Patriot League rival Colgate on Saturday, Oct. 22.
GU will stay in league for the rest of the season travelling to Holy Cross on Oct. 12, hosting Fordham on Nov. 5 for Senior Day, before concluding the 2011 regular season at Lehigh on Nov. 12.
In 2012, Georgetown will experience a more favorable home schedule, playing six of its 11 games at Multi-Sport Field. After opening the season at Davidson on Sept. 1, GU will host Wagner on Sept. 8, followed by a visit from Yale on Sept. 15. The game with the Bulldogs will be the first of three consecutive Ivy League games, as GU travels to Princeton the following week to play the Tigers on Sept. 22, before returning home to host Brown on Sept. 29.
The Hoyas will stay in the Patriot League the rest of the way, travelling to Fordham on Oct. 6, hosting Lehigh on Oct. 13, followed by back-to-back road games at Colgate on Oct. 20 and Lafayette on Oct. 27.
After a bye the Hoyas will conclude the 2012 regular season at home with Bucknell on Nov. 10 and Holy Cross on Nov. 17.
Georgetown football will begin spring practice on Tuesday, March 22 in preparation for the 2011 season. The spring will conclude with the team's annual banquet on Saturday April 16, followed the Blue & Gray Spring Game.
