WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Football Head Coach Rob Sgarlata has announced the team's 11-game schedule for the 2017 season. The Hoyas will play five home games at Cooper Field, including three of their six contests in Patriot League play. Starting times for all 11 games will be released at a later date.
"I am very excited about our 2017 schedule," Sgarlata said. "We have a great out-of-conference schedule to start the year, traveling to play Campbell for the first time ever and then returning to open on the Hilltop against Marist. We then start the Ivy League part of our schedule with games at Columbia, home against Harvard and at Princeton. It is always great to play in the northeast where we have an extremely passionate alumni base. I believe this challenging nonconference schedule will prepare us for our league opponents. Our players, coaches and staff are working extremely hard this spring to prepare us for the challenge ahead."
For the second-straight season, the Hoyas will open the season with two nonconference games against teams from the Pioneer Football League. After a season-opening bye week, the Blue & Gray will travel to Buies Creek, N.C., to face Campbell University on September 9. It will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.
Marist College, also out of the Pioneer Football League, visits the Hilltop for the home opener on September 15. It will be the fourth-straight year the two teams have faced each other and the 10th meeting in the past 11 years.
Georgetown will play the first of three games against Ivy League opponents when it travels to Columbia University on September 23 for the third-annual battle for the Lou Little Trophy. The Hoyas have won both meetings over the past two seasons, including a 17-14 victory at Cooper Field last year.
The Blue & Gray will continue its Ivy League swing on September 30 when Harvard University comes to the Nation's Capital. The Hoyas will wrap up nonconference play with a road trip to Princeton University on October 7.
Patriot League play opens as the Hoyas visit the defending champions, Lehigh University, on October 14. Following two-straight games on the road, Georgetown will return to the friendly confines of Cooper Field to host Fordham University on October 21. The Hoyas will close out October as they make the trip to face the College of the Holy Cross on October 28.
The calendar turns to November as the Hoyas welcome Lafayette College for Homecoming on November 4.
The Blue & Gray will play its final game on the road on November 11 when it travels to Bucknell University before concluding the regular season with a Senior Day matchup against the 2015 Patriot League Champions, Colgate University, on November 18.
