WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Football Coach Kevin Kelly has announced that Thurston Childrey, Alex Kolt and Kevin Mapp will join the coaching staff for the 2011 season. Childrey will coach the team's safeties, Kolt will assist with the offensive line and Mapp will assist with the outside linebackers.
"We are excited to bring quality young coaches, like Thurston, Alex and Kevin to our staff," Kelly said. "Each brings energy and we feel they will help in preparing us to be a better football team."
Childrey, a Richmond, Va. native, comes to the Hilltop after spending one season as the assistant quarterbacks coach at University of Richmond. Prior to his time in Richmond, Childrey served as a graduate assistant at University of Virginia for three seasons, working with the offensive coordinator.
At Georgetown, Childrey will coach the safeties and be responsible for recruiting Southern Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, California, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Hawaii. Childrey earned his B.A. in English with a minor in government from Virginia in 2007.
Alex Kolt, an Arlington, Va. native has worked with the Georgetown football team since the beginning of the winter training season and officially joined the staff in June as the assistant offensive line coach, where he will work with offensive line coach Brad Dunlay.
Kolt was a two year starter at Hampden-Sydney on the offensive line, helping his team to conference championships in 2007 and 2009. Kolt graduated from Hampden-Sydney with a B.A. in history and minor in rhetoric and earned his Master's of Education in sports leadership.
Kevin Mapp, who joined the staff in June, will assist with outside linebackers with the Hoyas. Mapp is in his ninth season of college coaching having served as the defensive line coach Coastal Carolina after three seasons at Hofstra in various roles.
Mapp earned his B.A. in English with a concentration in African American Literature from James Madison University in 2005. He started at right tackle as a sophomore at JMU before a neck injury ended his playing career following the 2002 season. His coaching career started the following year as the assistant offensive line coach in 2002.
