WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University football team had four players named to the College Football Performance Awards Division I FCS Preseason Watch List, as senior defensive end Andrew Schaetzke (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit), senior cornerback Jayah Kaisamba (Fort Worth, Texas/LD Bell) senior placekicker Brett Weiss (Phoenix, Md./Boys' Latin) and junior kick returner Jeremy Moore (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) were all recognized at their respective positions.
Schaetzke, an All Patriot League First Team selection last season, was twice named Defensive Player of the Week, while finishing among the league leaders with nine sacks (9), 15 tackles for a loss of 100 yards and seven passes defended.
Kaisamba, an All Patriot League First Team selection and All ECAC First Team selection at cornerback, ranked second in the league and 16th in the nation among Division I FCS players with five interceptions. He also finished 30th in the country with 11 passes defended.
Weiss was solid in his first season as the Hoyas' placekicker converting 7-of-10 field goal attempts and 23-of-25 extra points to lead the Hoyas with 44 points. Moore, who also starred in the defensive backfield, earning Patriot League Second Team honors, was among the Patriot League leaders, averaging 26.9 yards per return and an 85 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Moore's kickoff return for a touchdown in 2010 was the program's first since 2004.
The College Football Performance Awards are selected exclusively based upon scientific rankings to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. The players named to the preseason watch list are recognized due to performance during the 2010 season. The Hoyas open the 2011 season at home on Multi-Sport Field against Davidson on Saturday, September, 3 at 6 p.m. Georgetown defeated the Wildcats, 20-10 in last year's season-opener.
