BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Rising senior linebacker Nick Alfieri (Portland, Ore./Jesuit[The Hotchkiss School]) has been selected to the 2014 Preseason All-Patriot League Team when the league announced its individual award winners and squad during Football Media Day at Green Pond Country Club.

Alfieri, a Second Team All-Patriot League selection in 2013, finished second in the PL averaging 10.2 tackles per game, behind only Bucknell's Evan Byers (11.7 tackles/game). He has finished among the league's top 10 tacklers in each of the last two seasons, while compiling 216 career tackles, the 10th best mark in Georgetown program history.

"Nick Alfieri is a great example of the true student-athletes we get to work with at Georgetown," Head Coach Rob Sgarlata said. "He has done a great job on the field and in the classroom over his first three years on the Hilltop. I am very excited to have him lead our team this year as a defensive captain and the No. 35 Joe Eacobacci Award Winner."

When training camp starts on August 4, the Portland, Oregon native and team quad captain will become the 11th Hoya to wear the prestigious Joe Eacobacci Memorial No. 35 Jersey. Eacobacci follows Sean Campbell, who was a Preseason All-Patriot League selection in 2013.

The Preseason All-Patriot League squad features a bounty of overall talent as 17 players earned first-team All-Patriot League status last year and 10 were on the second team. Twenty-three of the 28 players named to the preseason squad are heading into their senior season.
