Quintans, Roland joined Head Coach Rob Sgarlata at Patriot League Media Day.
July 31, 2014
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Senior captains Nick Quintans (Media, Pa./Penncrest) and Mike Roland (Miami, Fla./Coral Gables) each took Wednesday off from internships and their summer workout routines to accompany Head Coach Rob Sgarlata to the Green Pond Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa. for the annual Patriot League Football Media Day.
The pair of offensive lineman, who both started all 11 games last season, had the opportunity to speak with media from around the league about their expectations for training camp that opens this weekend and their goals for the 2014 season. In addition to media, Quintans and Roland had the opportunity to "compare notes" with opposing coaches, student-athletes and administrators during the annual meeting.
"(Media Day) was a great experience," Roland said. "I got a chance to meet some of the players from around the league and I've enjoyed that a lot."
"Especially playing against all these guys and now putting a face with the name, It was a great experience to meet all of the coaches and all of the players," Quintans added.
Roland had the day off from his AFLAC internship, but still awoke prior to 5 a.m. to join Sgarlata for the drive to the Lehigh Valley. Quintans also had the day off from his internship with Northwestern Mutual, but arrived separately from his home in nearby Media, Pa. The two staples of the Hoyas offensive line are both wrapping up their summers before Sunday's training camp report day. Despite the hard work that awaits, Quintans and Roland are anxious to get back on the field and begin preparation for the 2014 season.
"We're all definitely so excited for the start of training camp, especially with Coach Sgarlata," Roland said. "We're very confident about this season and I can't think of anything I'm more excited about than getting started."
"It's great to be able to get started after a long summer of working out and working and just being able to get back on the field for our last season of football," Quintans said.
The Hoyas begin its first season under Head Coach Rob Sgarlata when they report to campus on Sunday afternoon. Georgetown, selected seventh in the Patriot League preseason poll, will return six starters on offense, including Quintans and Roland and seven starters on defense, including senior captains Nick Alfieri and Alec May.
