Three Hoyas Named to Preseason All-Patriot League Football Team

Aug. 2, 2016

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Georgetown University football senior tight end Matt Buckman (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./St. Joseph Regional), senior placekicker Henry Darmstadter (Alexandria, Va./George Mason) and sophomore safety Jethro Francois (Miami, Fla./Winter Haven/Victory Christian Academy) were selected to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team when honors were announced during Patriot League Media Day at Green Pond Country Club.

Buckman, a Second Team All-Patriot League selection at tight end in 2015, was selected at fullback/H-back after finishing with 32 catches for 251 yards and four touchdowns during his junior season on the Hilltop. Darmstadter, a Second Team All-Patriot League selection in 2015, returns to the Hilltop after connecting on 27-of-27 extra points, while making 9-of-13 field goals with a long of 46 yards. Darmstadter is second in Georgetown history in field goal percentage, having made 16-of-23 opportunities during the last two seasons.

Francois was selected to the Preseason All-Patriot League team as a special teams non-specialist player, the first time the honor has been awarded. While excelling on special teams during his freshman season, Francois showed promise, earning FCS Division I National Rookie of the Week in addition to Patriot League Rookie of the Week for his 15 tackles, 1.5 tackle for loss of 10 yard and half sack performance in a win over Bucknell.

The Hoyas were selected seventh in the PL Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Defending league champion Colgate was selected first (70 points, 10 first-place votes), followed by Fordham (63, 1), Holy Cross (47, 1), Lehigh (47), Bucknell (31) and Lafayette (19) in front of the Hoyas.

The Hoyas report to campus to begin training camp on Sunday, August 7. Georgetown will open the 2016 season on Saturday, September 3, when they host Davidson at Cooper Field. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
