WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Football Head Coach Rob Sgarlata has announced the additions of Kellen Pruitt and Colin Woodward to the coaching staff. Both coaches will work under defensive coordinator Luke Thompson as Priutt will oversee the defensive ends and the nickel backs while Woodward will work with the linebackers.
"I am excited to announce the addition of Kellen Pruitt and Colin Woodward to our coaching staff," Sgarlata said. "They will both work with our defensive unit with Coach Thompson. Both are talented young coaches who have done a tremendous job with our student-athletes throughout our preseason camp. I truly believe the people make the place. In addition to being great communicators and teachers, both Kellen and Colin are quality individuals who care about the personal, academic and athletic development of our players."
Kellen Pruitt -- Defensive Ends/Nickel Backs Pruitt joins the Hoyas after spending the past eight of the last nine seasons coaching and playing overseas in Italy, Austria and Germany. In 2016, Pruitt served as the defensive coordinator for the Rome Grizzlies in Italy's First Division.
Prior to Rome, Pruitt spent five seasons with the Lazio Marines in Italy's First Division, working his way from assistant defensive coordinator and linebackers coach to become the team's defensive coordinator from 2013-15. During his time as defensive coordinator, Pruitt helped Lazio from the ninth-ranked defense in the league to the top-ranked defense by 2015, while helping guide eight players to national team selections.
In addition to coaching, Pruitt also starred as a linebacker, safety and wide receiver. Pruitt also served as a player/coach with the Carinthian Black Lions in Austria's First Division in 2011. He was a standout player for the Bergamo Lions in Italy's First Division in 2008, while also playing linebacker with the Lexington Horseman in the American Indoor Football Association. He got his start overseas serving as a player/coach for the Marburg Mercenaries in Germany's First Division in 2007.
Pruitt, a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter at linebacker at Syracuse University, earned a B.A. in sociology in 2005. On the field, he played under head coaches Paul Pasqualoni for three seasons and Greg Robinson for his final season. He was a two-year Butkus Award Watch List selection for the nation's top linebacker.
Pruitt is a Clinton, Md., native and former standout at Gwynn Park High School, where he was teammates with current Georgetown coach Maurice Banks.
Colin Woodward - Linebackers Prior to Georgetown, Woodward spent one season as a defensive assistant coach at The College of Wooster (Ohio), where he assisted the defensive staff with drills, served as the video coordinator and assisted in recruiting.
He was a four-year letterwinner and linebacker at Wooster, where he played for former Georgetown assistant coach Frank Colaprete. As a student-athlete, Woodward earned the Character, Courage and Commitment Award by the coaching staff in 2014-15. He was also selected by teammates as the J. Cocciletti Award for leadership, teamwork and dedication.
Away from the gridiron, Woodward spent two years working in the financial industry with S.R. Snodgrass, PNC Investments and the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network. He has also spent time volunteering with Walk for Multiple Sclerosis, the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.
Woodward, an Arlington, Va. native, graduated from Wooster in May 2015 with a B.A. in mathematics with a minor in economics. He is currently enrolled in the Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies working toward a master's degree in sports industry management.
