WASHINGTON, D.C. - Students are moving back to campus this weekend at Georgetown, but several athletic teams have been on the Hilltop since early August preparing for the start of the 2009 athletic seasons. Like student-athletes from other sports, members of the Hoya football have been providing updates on their summer workouts. This week, senior tight end Henry Bowe (Deephaven, Minn./Minnetonka) provides an update.
"For the more than 90 players of the Georgetown football team, this last month has been considerably different than your typical student. While Joe and Jane Hoya was grumbling about the return to classes and homework, we have been practicing in 100 degree heat, watching film for hours on end, and studying playbooks all in the effort of realizing an upset 10 months in the making. And the best part of it is--we love it.
We are less than a week away from our first game at preseason Patriot League favorite Holy Cross and if we had it our way we would play them today. With the months of offseason workouts, spring ball, summer training and now a fall camp behind us, we are chomping at the bit to hit somebody with a different color jersey.
With all of the experience from last year's team and the addition of a talented freshman class, we are looking to make a splash in the league and with Coach Kelly's first senior class that he recruited, it would seem fitting that we would be the team to finally break through. I know I speak for the entire team when I say that there would be no better way to finish our first week of classes than to leave Fitton Field in Worcester, Massachusetts singing the fight song and celebrating the beginning of a great season!"
