WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University football team travels south to Davidson, N.C. to open the 2012 season against Davidson College at Richardson Stadium on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. The game marks the third consecutive season the Hoyas and Wildcats have opened the season with each other, as GU has won the last two and leads the career series, 6-3.

A live audio broadcast of this evening's game, will be available through the Georgetown University Athletics website - - with Chuck Timanus providing the play-by-play and Ryan Sakamoto adding color. Fans can also get game updates from the team's official twitter account: @HoyasFB.

The Hoyas look to build on a successful 2011 season that saw them go 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the Patriot League, finishing in second place in the league after falling to Lehigh University, 34-12 in the Patriot League Championship game on November 12. It was the first time the Blue & Gray played for a league championship since joining the PL in 2001.

Georgetown has plenty of reasons for optimism, welcoming 17 starters back to campus, including preseason Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, LB Robert McCabe (Newtown Square, Pa./Malvern Prep). McCabe, a senior captain, broke the Hoyas single-season tackles record in 2011, compiling 2011 tackles to lead the PL. He also tied for the team lead with four interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. All four of the Hoyas linebackers return with senior inside linebacker Jeremy Grasso (Washington, N.J./Bergen Catholic) and outside linebackers juniors Sean Campbell (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) and Dustin Wharton (LaVale, Md./Allegany), who finished second in the PL in tackles last season. The Hoyas also return sophomore defensive tackle Jordan Richardson (Athens, Ga./Athens Academy), who emerged as a starter during his freshman season.

Senior co-captain QB Isaiah Kempf (Glendale, Calif./Bridgton Academy) will begin his second season as the Hoyas starter. Kempf led the Hoyas to 27.0 points per game a season ago, passing for 1,268 yards with 10 touchdowns, while rushing for 263 yards and four touchdowns in nine games. Kempf will be surrounded by an offense that returns 10 starters, including a big talented offensive line that features six players with starting experience, including senior center Kevin Sullivan (Maywood, N.J./Bergen Catholic) and preseason All-Patriot League selection Mike Roland (Miami, Fla./Coral Gables) a sophomore right guard. The Hoyas will have plenty of depth at running back, with all four of the team's regular ball carriers returning, including junior Nick Campanella (Roselle, Ill./Montini Catholic), who led the team with eight touchdowns. At wide receiver, GU has 10 players returning that caught passes last season, including senior Max Waizenegger (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson), who led the team with 424 yards.

DAVIDSON: The Hoyas will face a Davidson team that ranked eighth in the nation last season in passing offense, averaging over 303 yards per game. The Wildcats return junior starting quarterback Jonathan Carkhuff, who has started since his freshman season, making his collegiate debut against the Hoyas in 2010. Last year Carkhuff threw for a program-record 3,326 yards. Senior wide receiver Lanny Funsten, a preseason All-America selection, became the first Davidson player to catch 100 passes and just the third to catch for over 1,000 yards. The Wildcats are coached by Tripp Merritt in his eighth season as head coach of the program. He guided them to a 4-7 overall finish and a 2-6 league record in 2011.
