Extra Points: The Georgetown Football Blog

Sept. 3, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The final touches for the season opener are being put in place as the Georgetown University football hits the road on Friday for its first game of the 2009 season. The Hoyas open the campaign at Holy Cross on Saturday, September 5 at Fitton Field in Worcester, Mass. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.

Senior tight end Henry Bowe (Deephaven, Minn./Minnetonka) provides an update on Georgetown's week of practice prior to the season opener.

Fans can once again watch every Georgetown home game this season on GUHoyas.com, with Chuck Timanus providing all of the action on Hoya Vision. Timanus will also handle the play-by-play for every Georgetown road game, which will be broadcast at no charge through GUHoyas.com this season. Links for each live broadcast will be found on the calendar on the website.

"It's been a busy week for the football team. With this last weekend off from football, we started organizing and preparing ourselves for the start of classes yesterday (Wednesday). Also, all of the freshmen players participated in the Freshmen Orientation weekend on campus.

"After the weekend off (some of the only free time we've had in almost a month), we came back on Monday morning with fresh legs and began our last week of preparation for Holy Cross. With breakfast at 8 a.m. and special teams and position meetings starting at 8:30 a.m., we have been getting our mornings off to a fast start.

"After watching film, we hit the weight room. To help with the recovery from a long month of two-a- days, our Strength & Conditioning Coach, Augie Maurelli, has organized stretching sessions in the pool at Yates. After lunch and a quick nap, we head to the locker room where we psych ourselves up to the musical favorites of senior Rich Hussey. With the largest techno library on campus, everyone is ready to go by the time we hit the field. Practice this week has been upbeat and fast-paced. We're jamming as much work in as we can before we finally make the eight-hour bus ride up to Worcester.

"I've never felt more confident about the team going into the first game as I do this year. When the season finally gets under way this Saturday at Fitton Field, we will be ready to go!"

Keep following Bowe and his teammates throughout the coming season on GUHoyas.com as they will keep fans informed about the happenings of the Blue & Gray football team. Fans can also get more of an inside look as Georgetown Athletics launches, Hoya Insider, the new blog packed full of inside information on many teams and what's going on in the athletics department.
