Sept. 6, 2015

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University junior football player Ty Williams (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) suffered a serious neck injury during the team’s opening game at St. Francis (Pa.) and underwent surgery at the Altoona UPMC Hospital on Saturday night.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Ty Williams and his family,” Georgetown Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lee Reed said. “The coming days will be very important and we will be here to support him and his family. We ask our fans and the entire Georgetown community to believe and pray for Ty as he begins the recovery process.

“I would also like to thank the athletic department at St. Francis (Pa.) and the medical staff at UPMC Altoona Hospital for their tremendous reaction and support at the game and in the last 24 hours. It has meant quite a bit, both to Georgetown and his family.”

Williams, a junior linebacker, was injured during the first quarter of the game.

“Ty is one of our leaders on and off of the field and is a very important part of the Hoya Football Family." Georgetown Head Coach Rob Sgarlata said. “He is a tremendous young man. We are hopeful that he will progress and we are keeping and him and his family in our thoughts and constant prayers."
