Last Time Out
The Hoyas are coming off of a season-opening 38-14 win over Davidson College last Saturday at Cooper Field. Quarterback Tim Barnes (Oradell, N.J./River Dell Regional), making his first start since his freshman year, set new career highs in completions (25), passing yards (215) and touchdowns). Justin Hill (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) had two touchdown receptions while Justin Harrell (New Orleans, La./Newman) and Brandon Williams (Germantown, Md./Northwest) each added one. Christian Bermudez (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School) had GU's lone score on the grown with a 1-yard TD run.
The Georgetown defense forced three turnovers and held the Wildcats to just 48 yards rushing on 30 attempts. David Akere (Carrolton, Texas/Hebron) forced and fell on a fumble while Jake Johnson (Corapolis, Pa./West Allegheny) and Ramon Lyons (Orlando, Fla./Ocoee/West Orange) each had interceptions.
Barnes and punter Harry McCollum (Arlington Heights, Ill./Saint Viator), who had an average of 45 yards on three punts, were both named Patriot League Honorable Mention on Monday.
The Red Foxes enter Saturday's contest 0-1 after a 26-10 defeat to fellow Patriot League member, Bucknell, last weekend. Marist gained 341 yards of total offense against the Bison, including 263 in the air, but was plagued by six turnovers including four interceptions by quarterback Mike White. Both Juston Christian and Lawrence Dickens had at least 75 yards receiving and Mike Maccarone booted a 37-yard field goal.
About the Matchup
The Hoyas are 14-4 all-time against the Red Foxes, including a 34-7 victory in their home opener last season. GU is 4-1 in the past five meetings, all coming since 2010, and Head Coach Rob Sgarlata is a perfect 2-0 against Marist.
Oh Captain, My Captain
Each week, Sgarlata and his staff select game captains to serve alongside 2016 team captains David Akere and Tim Barnes. These players are chosen on a weekly basis based on their actions both on and off the field.
This week's captains are senior linebacker Leo Loughrey (Glenshaw, Pa./Central Catholic) on defense, junior running back Alex Valles (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) on offense and senior wide receiver Patrick Finnegan (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Loyola) on special teams.
What's up Next
Following Saturday's game against Marist, Georgetown will have a bye week before returning home to take on Ivy League foe Columbia in a homecoming matchup for the Lou Little Trophy on Saturday, September 24. Kickoff at Cooper Field is set for 2 p.m. Last season, GU defeated the Lions, 24-16, in New York.
