WASHINGTON - Georgetown football senior defensive back Jelani Williamson (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) was named Patriot League Honorable Mention on Monday, recognizing his performance in Georgetown’s 16-10 season-opening victory at Campbell.
Williamson scored the game-winning touchdown for the Hoyas, pouncing on a fumble and returning it 32 yards for the score to give the Blue & Gray a 16-10 lead with 1:27 remaining in the fourth quarter. The senior also contributed five tackles, a sack and recovered another fumble. His sack in the first quarter was the first of his career and pushed Campbell out of the red zone forcing a long field goal attempt that was missed. He recovered a fumble in the second quarter inside Georgetown’s own 5-yard line. He was part of a defense that recorded seven sacks and forced four turnovers while holding the Camels to just one touchdown and 2-of-4 on red zone attempts.
This is Williamson’s second career Patriot League Honorable Mention selection and his third weekly award overall. He was previously named the defensive player of the week last season.
The Hoyas will return home to the friendly confines of Cooper Field for their home opener on Saturday, September 16 against Marist College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Live stats and a video stream will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
