Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- For the second time in two games at Harbin Field this season, the Hoyas lost on a go-ahead touchdown with less than 20 seconds to play, falling today, 12-10, to Monmouth.  The Monmouth Hawks took the win on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Brian Boland to Pete Raspitzi with only 17.8 seconds to play, capping off an 11-play, 69 yard drive.

The Hawks impressive final drive came as a surprising end to a mostly defensive struggle.  The defenses combined for eight takeaways, including three interceptions by Monmouth, two picks by Georgetown, three Georgetown fumble recoveries and a combined nine sacks for both teams.  Neither team gained more than 300 yards of total offense, with Georgetown producing 288, and Monmouth squeezing out 225.

After doing little offensively most of the first half, Georgetown managed to take a 7-6 lead on a 31- yard touchdown pass from Andrew Crawford (Jr., Superior, Colo./Fairview) to Luke McArdle (Sr., Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional (Phillips Academy)).  The touchdown strike was set up with several rushes from back-up quarterback Alondzo Turner (Fr., Capitol Heights, Md./Bladensburg).  The Hawks had earlier taken the lead on two field goals by Steve Andriola of 41 and 26 yards.

Several scoring opportunities for both teams in the second half led to three Georgetown field goal attempts (1-of-3) and a missed field goal for Monmouth along with an intercepted pass by GU’s Byron Anderson (Jr., Montgomery Village, Md./DeMatha) in the Hoyas’ end zone.

Monmouth started their final drive at their own 31-yard line with only 2:25 to play. Boland orchestrated what would be their only touchdown drive of the day, including a conversion on fourth and 17 with 1:22 to play.

The Hoyas were led on the ground by Marcus Slayton (So., Cleveland, Ohio/Benedictine), who rushed for 67 yards on 14 carries, including a 28-yard tackle breaking rumble.  Crawford passed for 161 yards on 14 of 29 completions, and his favorite target McArdle caught six of those passes for 121 yards.

GU takes to the road for a game this upcoming Saturday, September 27, at VMI. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
