Hoya Notes - Post-Game Yale From The Desk of Kevin Kelly

Dear family, friends and fans,

First, everyone is disappointed with the loss to Yale on Saturday. We did some good things on both offense and defense, but on Sunday when we watched the film and discussed each individual player with the three coordinators the main theme we came away with is that we need to be more consistent in every phase of the game. During our two wins our special teams' coverage and return units were strengths. Against Yale, those units did not play up to their capabilities.

Yale is a talented football team and did a good job of making big plays on offense and special teams and taking advantage of our penalties, but it is no secret that when you score 27 points you should win.

It was nice to see sophomore linebacker Dustin Wharton have a productive game for us. Wharton has done a good job in making the move from safety to linebacker, a move that was made during training camp, and had a career-high 11 tackles. In my coaching experience one of the things you learn is the importance of how you react and move forward after a loss. On Sunday, the guys showed resilience and focus as we began preparing for Marist. We know a lot of our team goals are still within reach and we are still 1-0 in the Patriot League, but the loss just shows that we still have a lot more work to do.

We're back on the field today and one day closer to Marist. Each time we've made the trip to Poughkeepsie to play them it has been a battle, with the last five games being decided by one touchdown or less. Everyone is looking forward to getting back on track and erasing the feeling that was left from the Yale game. For all of those who will be in attendance, we are looking forward to seeing you in Poughkeepsie!

Win the Day!

Coach Kelly
