WASHINGTON - Matt MacZura and Dezmond Richardson Earn Patriot League Weekly Honors; Dustin Wharton named Honorable Mention

Junior placekicker/punter Matt MacZura (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Central Catholic) was named the Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week and freshman defensive end Dezmond Richardson was named the PL Rookie of the Week when the league announced its weekly honors on Monday afternoon. Junior linebacker Dustin Wharton (LaVale, Md./Allegany) was named an honorable mention.

MacZura was named the PL Special Team's Player of the Week for the second time this season, after kicking the game-winning field goal from 33-yards with 14 seconds left in the Hoyas, 21-20 national-televised victory over Princeton on Friday night. MacZura connected on a career-high three field goals against the Tigers, while placing two punts inside Princeton's 20 yard line. Earlier this season, MacZura earned the same honor after the Hoyas win over Wagner.

Richardson made his first collegiate start on Friday night at Princeton, making seven tackles and one sack in the Hoyas victory. Richardson moved from outside linebacker to defensive end leading up to the game and was a factor in GU's strong defensive performance. It is the first Patriot League honor Richardson has received in his young career on the Hilltop.

Wharton made 12 tackles, with one tackle for loss, one sack, one pass break up and a blocked kick during Friday's win for Georgetown. Wharton was again active putting pressure on the quarterback and breaking up plays in the backfield throughout Friday night's game, helping GU end a 13-game losing streak to Ivy League opponents.

The Hoyas return to the Hilltop on Saturday afternoon to host Brown University 1-1, 0-0 Ivy League) to highlight homecoming weekend. Kick-off for Saturday is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. Tickets for the Hoyas homecoming game with Brown and the rest of the 2012 Georgetown Football home games are available.
