Extra Points: The Georgetown Football Blog

Sept. 25, 2009

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University football team returns back to the Multi-Sport Field on Saturday, Sept. 26, hosting D.C. rival Howard on Homecoming Day. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. on the Hilltop. Senior tight end Henry Bowe (Deephaven, Minn./Minnetonka), as he has done since the start of preseason camp, provides an update.

"It was another tough game this last weekend but there were several key highlights. In his first collegiate start, freshman gunslinger Isaiah Kempf came close to the Georgetown record for pass attempts, completed 32 passes, and eclipsed 300 yards passing, leading an offensive revival that may just turn into an explosion this weekend against Howard. Kempf was awarded Patriot League Rookie Player of the Week honors. Slot receiver Robert Lane had 13 catches, the most by any Patriot League player since 2003. Both of these performances show the potential that this offense has every time we take the field. With a little better performance in the red zone, we know we can light up the scoreboard.

"On the other side of the ball, junior linebacker Nick Parrish was awarded Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors after an incredible performance of 17 tackles, one for a loss, and one sack that helped the defense record a total of six sacks that alone forced four fumbles. Parrish is leading the Patriot League in tackles.

"These performances highlight the talent that is on this team. We can compete with any team on our schedule but we need to start executing at a higher level to win some games. We are focusing on shoring up the situations that have caused some problems in the first three games and when we perform better in these situations, look out.

"Look for some fireworks this Saturday when the D.C. Mayor's Cup is on the line. We see this game as a great way to rebound from a slow start and jumpstart the rest of the season. If you can save some room after all the GUGS burgers, maybe we can throw some Buffalo meat on the grill..."
