Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Drew Crawford (Jr., Superior, Colo. /Fairview) fired four touchdown passes, including three to senior standout Luke McArdle (Boxford, Mass /Masconomet Regional (Phillips Academy)) to lead the Hoyas to a 49-21 Homecoming win over the Seawolves of Stony Brook University.  The Hoyas gained 490 yards of total offense en route to their highest scoring effort in the past two seasons.

The Hoyas struck early, scoring on their second drive of the game on a 36-yard touchdown strike from Crawford to McArdle.  The Seawolves matched the score with a touchdown of their own on a three-yard rush by Clinton Graham.

From that point, the Hoya defense stiffened, and the Hoya offense kept rolling.  Immediately after Stony Brook’s score, the Hoyas responded with another touchdown drive capped off by a 16-yard touchdown run by freshman quarterback Alondzo Turner (Capitol Heights, Md. /Bladensburg).  The Hoyas followed that up with an interception by Jason Abrams (So., Closter, N.J. /St. Joseph), which led to another touchdown strike from Crawford to McArdle, this one for 34 yards.

Georgetown extended their lead to 34-7 in the second quarter, but just as Stony Brook seemed down and out, they capitalized on a long fumble return to the Georgetown 16, which led to another touchdown run by Graham with no time remaining.  The Hoyas, however, seized back momentum going into the half by blocking the extra point and Matt Fronczke (Downers Grove, Ill. /Benet Academy) returning it for a defensive two-point conversion and GU left the field with a 36-13 advantage.

The Hoyas did not let up in the second half, rallying behind the passing of Crawford, and the rushing of Marcus Slayton (So., Cleveland, Ohio /Benedictine) who finished the game with 130 yards on 19 carries.  Georgetown scored two more touchdowns and let in only one, to record a 49-21 victory.

The Seawolves held the final edge in passing yards with 282 to Georgetown’s 260, but the Hoyas’ dominated on the ground, with 267 yards to Stony Brook’s 107.  The Hoyas also finished the game with three interceptions, and converted 7 of 14 third downs, whereas Stony Brook converted 4 of 13.

The Hoyas’ next action is on October 18th at Cornell. It will mark the first time GU has faced an Ivy League opponent since a 1937 showdown with University of Pennsylvania. Georgetown’s next home game is on October 25th versus Lehigh.
