Postgame Quotes

Oct. 11, 2008

Georgetown Head Coach Kevin Kelly

On the game...
"I just told the guy in the locker room, we lost the game but I have to look at the positives. There were a lot of them. We did not quit, and we played better in the second half then we did in the first half. There are obviously mistakes we have to correct. I told them we have to stop that. We will watch the film on Monday and get ready for Bucknell."

Close opportunities
"It could have been a much different game. We spotted them seven right at the beginning, and that did not help. We did not capitalize on the field position we gained. A couple of those turnovers, obviously hurt us."

On the offense...
"We have had a lot of different people playing. We have a lot of youth there. If you check out the classes you will see a lot of freshmen and sophomores playing on the offensive side of the football. We have to be more consistent in what we do. Also, there were a few times on first down that we need to do a better job. We have to stay on schedule, when you get to 3rd and long it isn't a good thing."

On Keerome Lawrence...
"Keerome does some good things, but he threw that interception that hurt us. He is a good football player, and we need to keep working with him. We have to understand this is his first year as a starting quarterback on the college level."

On James Brady...
"He could have played some today. He got nicked up this week, and we thought it was in his best interest that we be careful with him. He will be ready next week."

On scoring late...
"You need some positive things to come out of it. I think you saw some enthusiasm with the guys there in the fourth quarter, and that's what I told them, you have to build on those types of things. Obviously, we have to eliminate the errors we made in the first half, but we played better in the second half I thought."

On the defensive effort...
"We gave up a couple big plays, which we shouldn't have. When you do that you give a good offensive football team an opportunity to score. We gave them some chances in the first quarter. To me a defensive play is the kick off, and we gave them seven right from the get go, and also a couple long play action passes we shouldn't have."

On Bucknell...
"I have not seen too much of them at this point, but I know that they are an improved team. They will come in here ready to play, I am sure of that.

Sophomore quarterback Keerome Lawrence

On the game...
"We were excited and we were in the game, but little mistakes like the ones that have hurt us before hurt us again."

On the offense...
"We could have played much better and I think if we would have, we could have won . We were in the red zone four times and only got it in once."

On playing the entire game...
"We thought we (he and freshman quarterback James Brady) still might switch, but I was prepared for it (playing the whole game)."

On running the ball 23 times...
"Charlie's (injured junior back Charlie Houghton) a great back and was the Patriot League Rookie of the Year and we miss him, but Keion Wade has stepped it up big time and we are really confident with him."

On the turning point in the game...
"When we moved to the five-yard line and I fumbled the snap. That could have given us the momentum and the game was still close. That just turned it around."

On his play...
"The coaches told us to just go out and have fun. I just took what he said and ran with it. I didn't feel any pressure."
