WASHINGTON - Georgetown University freshman defensive tackle Brennen Sawicki (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week when weekly awards were announced by the league on Monday afternoon.
Sawicki recorded a career-high 12 tackles, while registering his first forced fumble and 1.0 tackle for loss, as the Hoya defense forced three Colgate turnovers, a season-high for the Raiders. GU also held Colgate under its season averages in total offense, rushing yards and scoring offense. On the season, Sawicki has 25 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss of 11 yards, 1.0 sack and a forced fumble, leading all GU freshmen in those categories.
The honor, announced on Monday afternoon by the league office, is the first weekly award of Sawicki’s career. He becomes the first Hoya to earn rookie of the week honors since Dezmond Richardson (Euless, Texas/Grant/Euless Trinity) accomplished the feat on November 20, 2012.
The Hoyas (3-4, 1-1 Patriot League) return to action on Saturday, October 24 when they travel to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on the Bucknell Bison (3-3, 0-1 Patriot League). Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Christy Mathewson Stadium.
