Robert McCabe and Brett Weiss Earn Patriot League Player of the Week Awards

Brett Weiss made a career-high four field goals in the Hoyas win over Colgate.

WASHINGTON - Junior linebacker Robert McCabe (Newtown Square, Pa./Malvern Prep) was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week and senior placekicker Brett Weiss (Phoenix, Md./Boys' Latin) was named the league's Special Teams Player of the Week following the Georgetown football team's (6-2, 2-1 Patriot League) 40-17 victory over Colgate on Saturday afternoon.

McCabe, who leads the Patriot League in tackles (11.75/game), made a career-high 15 stops and returned an interception 50 yards for his first career touchdown. The interception was McCabe's third of the season. McCabe and Hoyas' defense held Colgate under half of its rushing average to give GU its first win over the Raiders in program history. This is McCabe's first Defensive Player of the Week award. He was recognized as an honorable mention on October 8.

Weiss turned in the top scoring output for a Patriot League kicker this season, making four-of-four field goals and all four of his extra point attempts in the win over the Raiders. Weiss made kicks of 29, 30, 21 and 37 yards for a career-high four field goals. His 16 points is a career-high. Weiss also added two tackles on kick-off returns to help the Hoyas special teams' units. The honor is Weiss's second Special Teams Player of the Week award this season, having earned the award following the Hoyas win over Wagner.

Georgetown will travel to Worcester, Mass. to take on the Patriot League-leading Holy Cross Crusaders (4-3, 2-0 Patriot League) on Saturday, October 29 at 1 p.m. GU defeated Holy Cross, 17-7 on homecoming weekend last season to snap a 10-game series winning streak by the Crusaders.

Georgetown will return to Multi-Sport Field on Saturday, November 5 when they host Fordham at 1 p.m. The game will be Senior Day on the Hilltop, as the Hoyas will recognize its 17 seniors prior to the game.
