WASHINGTON - Junior defensive end Andrew Schaetzke (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) has been named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, after a strong performance in the Georgetown University football team's 33-20 loss to Sacred Heart University on Saturday afternoon in Fairfield, Conn. The announcement was made by the Patriot League office on Monday afternoon.
On Saturday against the Pioneers, Schaetzke proved to be a force, tallying seven tackles, four tackles for loss of 30 yards, 2.5 sacks for a loss of 25 yards and a pass break up. Schaetzke is the Patriot League leader in tackles for loss with 10.5 and is second in the league with 6.0 sacks on the season.
Schaetzke is the first PL defensive player this season to win the Defensive Player of the Week Award twice. He also became the first Georgetown player to earn national accolades since the Hoyas joined NCAA Division I FCS, being named The Sports Network/Fathead.com National Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 13. The junior defensive end was also a preseason all league selection.
