Oct. 26, 2015

WASHINGTON - Senior linebacker Matt Satchell (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, freshman safety Jethro Francois (Miami, Fla./Winter Haven/Victory Christian Academy) was named Rookie of the Week and senior running back Jo’el Kimpela (Kinshasa, D.R. Congo/Euless Trinity) was selected as an honorable mention when the league office announced its weekly awards on Monday afternoon.

The weekly honors come after the Georgetown University football team defeated Bucknell, 17-9, on Saturday afternoon at Christy Mathewson – Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg, Pa.

Satchell led the Hoya defense with 18 total tackles, 13 solo tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss, all career highs. His 18 total tackles and 13 solo tackles are both tied for the third best single-game performance in GU program history. Satchell also combined for an important sack late in the fourth quarter to force a turnover on downs after Bucknell had driven into the Hoya red zone. The award is Satchell’s first career weekly honor.

Francois made his first-career start one to remember, compiling 15 total tackles and 11 solo tackles, a GU freshman record. The freshman safety also had 1.5 tackles for loss, and a pass breakup, while combining with Satchell on an important fourth quarter sack. Francois is the second Hoya to earn PL Rookie of the Week this season, following classmate Brennen Sawicki (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto), who earned the honor last week.

Kimpela broke out against Bucknell, carrying 18 times for 142 yards and a decisive 11-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to help GU seal the victory. This is the fifth weekly honor for Kimpela during his career on the Hilltop.

Georgetown (4-4, 2-1 Patriot League) returns to action when it travels to Goodman Stadium in Bethlehem, Pa. to take on Lehigh (3-4, 1-1 Patriot League). The opening kickoff between the Hoyas and Mountain Hawks is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
