WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University football team's freshman safety Jethro Francois (Miami, Fla./Winter Haven/Victory Christian Academy) was named the STATS FCS National Freshman of the Week when weekly honors were announced on Monday afternoon. Francois becomes the first Hoya to earn national freshman of the week honors. He was also the Patriot League Rookie of the Week.
In his first career start, Francois compiled 15 total tackles and 11 solo tackles, a GU freshman record to help defeat Patriot League rival Bucknell, 17-9. He also had 1.5 tackles for loss, and a pass breakup, while combining with senior linebacker Matt Satchell (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) on an important fourth quarter sack to force a turnover on downs deep in GU territory. Francois was the second Hoya to earn PL Rookie of the Week honors this season, following classmate Brennen Sawicki (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto), who earned the honor last week. Prior to his start at Bucknell, Francois had 11 tackles over seven games.
Satchell earned STATS FCS National Defensive Player of the Week honorable mention for his performance at Bucknell. He led the Hoya defense with 18 total tackles, 13 solo tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss, all career highs. His 18 total tackles and 13 solo tackles are both tied for the third best single-game performance in GU program history. This is the first time Satchell
