Jo'el Kimpela Becomes Third Hoya to Earn Patriot League Rookie of the Week in 2012
Oct. 29, 2012
WASHINGTON - Freshman running back Jo'el Kimpela (Democratic Republic of the Congo/Euless Trinity) was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, after rushing for a career-high 80 yards on 16 carries and scoring his second career touchdown in the Hoyas 20-17 win over Lafayette. Junior safety Stephen Atwater (Duluth, Ga./Peachtree Ridge) earned PL honorable mention after intercepting a pass, recovering a fumble and breaking up three passes.
Kimpela, who received extensive action for the second game, helped the Hoyas control the ball in the second half, leading the team with 80 yards on 16 carries. Kimpela caught a five-yard touchdown pass from fellow-freshman, quarterback Kyle Nolan (Branford, Conn./Choate Rosesmary Hall) late in the third quarterback to give the Hoyas the lead. Kimpela is the third Hoya this season to earn PL Rookie of the Week honors, joining Nolan, who earned the honor last week and high school teammate defensive end Dezmond Richardson (Euless, Texas/Euless Trinity) for his performance against Princeton.
Atwater earned Patriot League weekly honorable mention after turning in a career-best performance. Atwater's first quarter interception and 19 yard return led to Georgetown's first field goal. Atwater also recovered a fumble and broke up a career-high three passes in a dominant defensive performance for Georgetown, as they matched a season-high seven forced turnovers. This is the first weekly honor received by Atwater during his career.
After Georgetown's bye week, the Hoyas return to action on Saturday, November 10 when they host Bucknell with kick-off slated for 1:05 p.m. The Blue & Gray will play its season-finale the following week when they host Holy Cross on Saturday, November 17.
