WASHINGTON - Senior defensive end Andrew Schaetzke (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Georgetown University football team's (7-2, 3-1 Patriot League) 19-6 victory at Holy Cross on Saturday. Schaetzke totaled seven tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks and one fumble forced in the victory.
Schaetzke once again established his status as one of the top defensive ends in the country, by leading a dominant Georgetown defense in a 19-6 win at Holy Cross on Saturday. The All-Patriot League standout helped the Hoya defense limit Holy Cross to 300 yards of total offense, forced five turnovers and did not allow a score until the final minutes. Schaetkze moved to fifth in League and fourth in school history with 27 career sacks, and leads the Patriot League while ranking in the FCS top 10 in both sacks (9.5) and tackles for loss (17.0) this season, both season career-highs. He wins the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week award for the third time in his career.
It was an award-filled weekend for Schaetzke, who earned the Dr. Edward N. Rose Trophy for the MVP of Holy Cross's family weekend game. He was also named the College Football Performance Awards Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week.
