WASHINGTON - Freshman defensive lineman Khristian Tate (Warner Robins, Ga./Covenant Academy) of the Georgetown University football team was named the Corvias Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday when the league announced its weekly awards. The honor recognizes Tate’s efforts during GU’s game at Lafayette on Saturday.
He blocked his third punt of the season, his second in two weeks, while adding four tackles, including three solo takedowns and 1.0 tackle for loss of six yards. His blocked punt in the second quarter led to a field goal that tied the game, 3-3, heading into the halftime break.
For Tate, who is now tied with teammate Hunter Kiselick (Nutley, N.J./Bergen Catholic) for the FCS lead with three blocked kicks this season, it is the second-straight week he has been recognized by the Patriot League. He was also an honorable mention selection on Oct. 24 after blocking a punt and recording seven tackles, 1.5 TFL and 0.5 sacks at Fordham.
Georgetown returns home to Cooper Field on Saturday for two-consecutive games, starting with a matchup against Holy Cross on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m.
