WASHINGTON - Georgetown University football freshman wide receiver Michael Dereus (Hyde Park, Mass./Williston Northampton) has been named the Corvias Patriot League Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Additionally, senior placekicker Henry Darmstadter (Alexandria, Va./George Mason) earned an honorable mention selection.

Dereus averaged 59.0 yards on two kickoff returns in Georgetown’s 21-20 setback to Holy Cross on Saturday. He returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown to tie the score, 7-7, after the Crusaders had taken an early lead. It was GU’s first kickoff return for a touchdown since Jeremy Moore (’12) against Yale in 2010. The 100-yard score was also the second-longest in Georgetown history.

This is Dereus’ first-career weekly award and the third Rookie of the Week honor for the Hoyas this season. Marquis Parris (Atlanta, Ga./Tri Cities) earned the selection on Oct. 3 while Khristian Tate (Warner Robins, Ga./Covenant Academy) was recognized on Oct. 31.

Darmstadter set the Georgetown record with his 25th career field goal on Saturday. His first field goal of the day, a 46-yard boot, cut GU’s deficit to 14-10 early in the second quarter. Overall, Darmstadter was 2-for-2 in field goal attempts, while also connecting on both PAT attempts. He later drove a career-long 49-yard field goal through the uprights to cut Georgetown’s deficit to one, 21-20, in the third quarter. The 49-yard kick is tied for the fifth-longest in program history.

For Darmstadter, an All-Patriot League Second Team selection in 2015 and a Preseason All-Patriot League Team member this season, this is his first-career weekly recognition.

The Hoyas will host Bucknell on Saturday, Nov. 12, at Cooper Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Prior to the game, Georgetown will recognize its 18 seniors in a Senior Day ceremony.
