Nov. 8, 2011

WASHINGTON - Senior defensive end Andrew Schaetzke (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) was added to the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List, in an announcement made on Tuesday morning. The Buck Buchanan Award is given annually to the most outstanding defensive player in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

Schaetzke has put together a dominant senior campaign, totaling 65 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, one interception, five pass breakups, three quarterback hurries and three forced fumbles. Through ten games, he leads the Patriot League in sacks (11) and tackles for loss (20.5), numbers that place him seventh in the nation in sacks and eighth in the nation in tackles for loss.

His 28.5 career sacks have moved him into second in Georgetown history (28.5) behind on Janne Kouri (31.5) and fourth in Patriot League history.

Beyond Schaetzke's individual numbers, he has helped the Hoyas' defense to place among the nation's best, as they are ninth in the FCS in scoring defense, allowing just 17.8 points per game. GU's rush defense has also proved sturdy, allowing 96.1 yards per game, seventh in the nation.

Schaetzke has been the focal point of a defense that has put the Georgetown University football team (8-2, 3-1 Patriot League) in a position to win its first Patriot League Championship and earn its first FCS Championship Tournament berth in school history when it takes on No. 6 Lehigh University (8-1, 3-0 Patriot League) at Goodman Stadium in Bethlehem, Pa. at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 12.
