WASHINGTON - Sophomore safety Nick Alfieri (Portland, Ore./Jesuit/The Hotchkiss School) has been selected to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic District 2 Division I Football Team for the 2012-13 academic year.
"Nick is an outstanding football player, student and person," Head Coach Kevin Kelly said. "For him to receive this honor is not a surprise to anyone involved with this program."
Alfieri moved from linebacker to safety after his freshman season and has started all nine games in the defensive backfield in 2012. He is third on the team and 10th in the Patriot League, averaging 8.33 tackles per game, while intercepting one pass with a 34-yard return, forcing one fumble and recovering one fumble during his second season on the Hilltop. In the classroom, Alfieri has excelled carrying a 3.37 grade point average.
For the second year in a row in 2012-13, the Capital One Academic All-America® program is comprised of four divisional teams, with student-athletes being honored separately in Division I, Division II and Division III. A fourth team - the College Division team - is comprised of NAIA, Canadian and two-year student-athletes. (Formerly, there were two teams - University Division (D1) and a College Division (all others).
