WASHINGTON - Georgetown University football freshman linebacker Wesley Bowers (Fort Washington, Md./Bishop McNamara) has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. The honor recognizes his performance in Georgetown's contest at Bucknell on Saturday.
Bowers finished with a career and game-high 10 tackles in GU's tough 12-0 loss to the Bison. He led a defense that allowed less than 20 points for the third time in the past four games. The Hoyas held Bucknell to less than 300 yards of total offense, including just 50 yards of offense in the first quarter and 46 yards in the second quarter. The Blue & Gray held the Bison to just a pair of field goals in three red zone chances and forced four three-and-out possessions.
This is Bowers' first career weekly award and the first of the season for the Hoyas. Previously, five players had earned six honorable mention selections.
Georgetown will return home to Cooper Field for the season finale on Saturday, Nov. 18 when the Hoyas host Colgate in a 1 p.m. contest. Georgetown will recognize its 27 seniors in a pregame Senior Day ceremony.
