Hoya Notes: From the Desk of Football Head Coach Kevin Kelly

Head Coach Kevin Kelly speaks to Lehigh Coach Andy Coen before Saturday's Patriot League Championship Game.

From the Desk of Football Head Coach Kevin Kelly

Dear family, friends and fans,

First and foremost, I wanted to thank everyone who traveled up to Lehigh to support us on Saturday and for those who have supported us throughout the season. We had a great turnout in Bethlehem, Pa. for the game, easily the most fans we have had at an away game since I've been here. It's a credit to our alumni, fans and the students and I wanted to personally thank everyone for helping make Saturday and the entire season a memorable one!

Also, everyone associated with the Georgetown football program owes Bruce Simmons and Yvette Logan a debt of gratitude for all the work they have put in to help organize the tailgates, an activity that has brought people from all eras of this program together on game days.

As for Saturday, we are all disappointed with the loss to Lehigh, but as I told the guys, we have to celebrate a good year. We know that the bar has been raised and that it was our seniors who did that for us. I told them again, how much I appreciated their efforts and respected their perseverance. The Class of 2012 will always be remembered as the class that turned this program around.

For our young guys, I told them that the expectation level is higher going forward. Next year they will not sneak up on anyone, so it means everyone will need to work harder to continue to raise the bar.

After a great season, our guys will now shift into academic mode. Each year we set our goals to win the Patriot League and be the best academic team in the league. We expect to achieve the latter each year. Our coaching staff will also be shifting gears into recruiting mode, as we expect to bring in a class that will help us achieve both of the goals listed above.

While it may seem like activity has slowed, all of the guys continue to work hard for 2012. They know that our fitness testing in December is coming soon, as it will set the baseline for when we start our winter training program in January. From there, spring ball will be right around the corner, starting on March 21 with the Blue & Gray Spring Game scheduled for April 21.

Once again, I want to thank all of the fans and alumni for their support and we hope you continue to follow our progress, as we prepare for the 2012 football season!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Coach Kelly
